Our History

CDST was organized in 1955 and has performed its community service for over 50 years. Our first training classes were held in the cattle barns at the Tulsa Fair Grounds. Later we moved to the VFW building on east 6th street. Summer classes were held in the parking lot at Utica Square. In September of 1966 arrangements were made at the National Guard Armory at 15th and New Haven. Classes were held one night a week, but the capabilities there were very limited. All equipment had to be setup and taken down each week and moved to storage area.

With limited funds but a lot of dedication, the Club was able to lease a large upstairs warehouse area (the old OTASCO warehouse) on East Pine Street. The members took it on themselves to remove partitions, walls, etc., in order to clear areas for two full size obedience rings and an Agility Training ring. The location and facility served the Club well for several years until the lease was canceled in early 2006. At that time, the Club established a building search committee and started looking for a new home.

With a lot of work and some good luck, an ideal location and the great facility we now have was located and leased. CDST today is both viable and growing. Best of all it continues to accomplish its objectives in training of people and their dogs while having a lot of fun doing it.

Our Service

CDST is a not-for-profit organization operated solely by volunteers. Our largest ongoing community service is the operation of a training school. CDST has contributed in training many outstanding obedience dogs which are well-represented in show rings across the country. Our members provide obedience stewards for licensed dog shows, obedience demonstrations for the public, and monthly Pet Therapy visits. CDST recognizes and supports other worthy activities, outside of obedience training, for the betterment of our canine companions.

Our Goals

The goal of CDST is to encourage obedience training for all dogs and to do all possible to protect and advance the interest of obedience training and exhibition. CDST has the objective and is dedicated to "training you to train your dog." With proper training, your dogs should become welcome members of your family, your neighborhood, and our community.

Our Philosophy

Proven training methods are concise, logical, and easy to understand. We use a well-rounded program that combines positive motivation with necessary compulsion to produce a reliable and happy dog in a reasonable amount of time. Training is conducted in accordance with the American Kennel Club's recognized standards and requirements. All breeds and mixed breeds are welcome. CDST Instructors and assistants are experienced in training their own dogs and are involved in continuing obedience training.
